Course Structure
TaF.tc's Diploma in Footwear Design and Product Development will be conducted in the form of lectures, discussions, demonstrations, case studies, practical exercises, role plays and hands-on activities.
Leather brings a touch of luxury and prestige to footwear. As a natural material, each hide comes with its unique characteristics. Learn how to appreciate leather and its qualities; its anatomy, sources, grades and the tanning process from raw hide to a finished material.
A huge factor determining the cost and durability of a pair of footwear is the construction method. This course breaks down a shoe into different components and provides an overview of the manufacturing process. Through this course you will analyse various components, accessories, materials and construction methods enabling you to comprehend the underlying issues in design, prototyping and production of constructing shoes of good quality.
This course highlights the importance of quality, fit and comfort in the footwear industry. You will analyse the factors that influence these 3 key areas and how to account for them in the production of shoes across various styles in this multifaceted and interactive class.
Get involved with your shoes on a whole new level. Shape the curves and lines of your shoes – discover the various stages and techniques. Learn from the shoe expert on how to create patterns for a variety of ladies shoes and men’s classic shoes. You will experience pattern making from 3D to 2D.
Enhance your skills in pattern making for ladies’ and men’s shoes. In this module, you will deepen your understanding and technical skills through preparing the last, marking location points, pattern adjustment and variations.
This course provides a hands on learning experience to cut, stitch and construct a pair of ladies high heel strappy sandal with access to special tools and equipment. You will not only learn to self-evaluate the product for quality but will also learn how to rectify mistakes. With guidance from our professional, take a look into the world of traditional shoe making and craft a pair that’s uniquely yours.
In a unique hands on experience, this course allows you to create your very own pair of ladies court shoes. You will learn to cut leather components from existing patterns, stitch upper, cement the outsole and use special tools and equipment. This module provides the learners with a comprehensive overview of the athletic shoes manufacturing process, so as to better comprehend the underlying issues in design, prototyping and production. Learners will analyze the various methods in athletic shoe construction and types of seam construction which will provide the designers and developers with key elements to build quality of finishing into the shoes.
This training provides occupational knowledge and skills of the various techniques and concepts in athletic shoes construction that are widely used in the footwear industry. It covers understanding of how athletic shoes are constructed, the various material utilization with various components within the construction of the athletic shoe. Thus fundamental knowledge will reduce redundant designs that cannot be replicated in mass production, eliminate misinterpretation in sampling and production, and improve communication in production specifications. This unit is delivered through lecture, demonstration and hands-on activities.
Gather the necessary knowledge of footwear cost computation before it goes into production. Learn how to communicate concise information with the production team and calculate cost factoring in the materials, labour and consumption. This course will act as a guide on the feasibility of your footwear production plans.
Use the right key tools to approach your market positioning of your footwear brand/line. You will be equipped with materials to identify the needs of your target customers, and learn to develop a footwear merchandise plan to optimize profits.
This course provides a unique hands on experience to make your very own pair of men’s shoes. With access to special tool and machinery, craft your own pair of men’s shoes under the guidance of our professional trainers. Taking a peek into the world of bespoke shoes, you will learn skills and techniques that goes into traditional shoe making.
Pick up the art of sketching various footwear styles to scale using a systematic approach. You will get hands on experience on how to transfer sketches to technical designs and how to create technical specification sheet to communicate clearly your design concepts to the production team.
Developing a shoe collection is not a mere walk in the park, various skills and considerations has to be put in place throughout the development. You will be shown various skills and how to interpret the latest trends and gain inspiration before conceptualizing your collection. From the creation of mood boards to the final technical package, this course is ideal for those who want to experience and create a full footwear design collection.

Entry Requirement
Singapore/PR Students:
Aged 16 years and above AND
Possess at least 3 GCE 'O' Level credits with a minimum of C6 including English and Mathematics OR
ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above OR
WSQ Advanced Certificate in Fashion Technology OR

International Students:
Aged 16 years and above AND
High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘O’ Levels with minimum grade C6 for 3 subjects, including English and Mathematics AND
IELTS score 5.5 or TOEFL score 600
ALL Students are required to have basic computing skills - i.e. able to turn on the laptop, use the mouse, drag and drop files, use online search engines for research; and be a competent user of Microsoft Office.
Graduation Requirements
Student must fulfil the following requirements:
75% attendance rate of total training hours per module
Assessed and be competent for every module
Student Pass Holders – a minimum of 90% attendance per month will be required.
Certificate Issuance
Upon successful completion of each module within the course, you will be awarded the Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) Statement of Attainment (SOA) by SkillsFuture Singapore.
After successful completion of all modules within the course, you will be awarded the WSQ Diploma in Fashion Technology (Footwear Design and Product Development), and the Diploma in Footwear Design and Product Development certification by TaF.tc.
WSQ certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
