Overview

Finding a jacket that fits and flatters is an uphill task so learn the art of soft tailoring for notched collar/construct and engineer notched jacket and its variations including the cardigan jacket for women’s wear. Jackets are a common feature in many ready-to-wear fashion brands, and this course is highly recommended for people who are involved in fashion designing, garment production, pattern making, product development and sewing. You will be introduced to drafting the jacket with given size specifications as well as to the process of making and sewing the jacket using the proper soft tailoring techniques and approaches adopted by the ready-to-wear garment industry. The course is conducted through explanatory drafting, demonstrations and hands-on sewing operations. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024

Objectives
  • Develop patterns for notched collar jacket with given industry’s specification or measurement
  • Develop patterns for a variety of jacket styles including a cardigan jacket
  • Prepare fabric, lining and interfacings for layout and cutting of the jacket
  • Apply fusible interfacings and reinforcements for the jacket component before sewing
  • Sew and seam units in progressive assembly
  • Evaluate the jacket against the given specifications or measurements and make adjustment to the desire fit
  • Press the sewn jacket into shape

Items Required For Class

Before your class begins, we'd like you to make sure that you have the following items so that the class can proceed smoothly.

The following items are compulsory for students to bring:

  • Fabric for the Jacket - Wool or wool blend fabrics 2.5meters ( no stripes or checkered designs)
  • We advise to get fabrics that are not too soft and slippery.
  • Additionally, solid color fabric is highly recommended. Clearly mark which is the face and back of the fabric.
  • Fabric for the lining – Nylon or Rayon 2meters ( printed designs)
  • Shoulder pads – ½ cm or 7mm
  • Matching color threads

  • Fabric for the interfacing – ( light color and stretchy)
  • Drafting Paper
  • TaF.tc Sewing Tool Kit - Drafting and sewing tools will be provided in class. *Do take note that the learning tools are for class usage. Kindly return them after class ends. Should you feel that you would like to own this set of tools, you can purchase the kit at SMH Crafts.

We do not offer any make-up or replacement classes.

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. There is also a minimum attendance requirement of 75% of training hours for Singaporean and PRs, and 90% of training hours for international students. If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to enjoy subsidies nor to sit for the assessment. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!
