Overview
This course will introduce the techniques necessary to draft pattern and sew basic tops. You will learn to develop different types of tops using basic block. This includes knowledge of necklines, collars and sleeve variation in pattern making. Gain these new skills through a variety of practical activities, demonstration and explicit teaching. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024

Objectives
  • Draft paper pattern blocks from given size specifications.
  • Develop a variety of patterns for tops with variations of collar, neckline, and sleeve.
  • Learn to label and mark individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches.
  • Sew a top with a variation of sleeves and necklines.
  • Evaluate sewn products against given specifications or measurements.

  • Conversion of imperial to metric measurements and vice versa.
  • Human shapes and variations.
  • Neckline variations.
  • Sleeve variations.
  • Collar variations.
  • Basic pattern block for tops.
  • Basic lockstitch and over-edge / over-lock machine threading maintenance and operations.
  • Variety of seams and facings.
  • Applications of interfacings zipper attachment and hemming finishes.
  • Built-in fabric retraction and shrinkage into stock production pattern.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be awarded a TaF.tc Certificate in Drafting and Sewing: Tops.

Admissions

To enrol, you must fulfil the following requirements

Aged 16 years and above

 and 2

Possess at least 3 GCE ‘O’ Level credits with a minimum of C6 including English and Mathematics OR ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above OR WSQ Advanced Certificate in Fashion Technology OR TaF.tc's Advanced Certificate

All students must also be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies: a. Drafting and Sewing: Casual Knits or Basic Drafting and Sewing

Graduation

To graduate, you must fulfil the following requirements

75% attendance rate of total training hours per module

 and 2

Be found competent for written, practical and oral assessments

International Students

To enrol, you must fulfil the following requirements

Aged 16 years and above

 and 2

High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘O’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basic OR Pass TaF.tc Entrance Test

 and 3

English Language Requirement: Possess a minimum credit in English at GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent OR IELTS score 4.5 or TOEFL score 75

 and 4

All students must also be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies: a. Drafting and Sewing: Casual Knits or Basic Drafting and Sewing.

Graduation

To enrol, you must fulfil the following requirements

75% attendance rate of total training hours per module. Student Pass Holders – a minimum of 90% attendance per month will be required.

FAQs

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. There is also a minimum attendance requirement of 75% of training hours for Singaporean and PRs, and 90% of training hours for international students. If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to enjoy subsidies nor to sit for the assessment. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!
