Overview
A step up from basics, this intermediate course provides knowledge of pattern development and garment construction of basic pants and tops with collars. You will learn to take body measurements, understand the relation of styles and ease allowance and develop patterns to sew the garment. You will master the techniques of laying fabric, cutting, sewing, edging and finishing.

Objectives
  • Draft basic pattern blocks for basic bottoms with given specifications or measurements taken from the human body in accordance with industrial organization standards.
  •  Develop a variety of patterns for selected tops with collars and bottoms using basic block via manipulation methods.
  • Label and mark individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches based on industrial practices.
  • Sew a top with collar and sleeves against given specifications or measurements.
  • Sew a bottom with waistband finishing and fly opening against given specifications or measurements.
  • Evaluate sewn basic bottom and top against given specifications or measurements.
  • Take follow-up actions for non-conformance.

Items Required For Class

Before your class begins, we'd like you to make sure that you have the following items so that the class can proceed smoothly.

  • The following items are compulsory for students to bring:

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Fabric/Lining requirements are based on standard medium sizing. Please purchase additional yardage for larger sizes.
    • Fabric for the Shirt - 100% Cotton Poplin/Gingham ( 2.0 meters for 45"/114cm width)  
    • Fabric for the Pants - 100% Cotton Twill ( 2.5 meters for 45"/114cm width).
      • We advise you to get fabrics that are not too soft and slippery.
      • Additionally, solid color fabric is highly recommended. Clearly mark which is the face and back of the fabric.
      • If you prefer to get prints, please get prints that are non-directional and can be cut in either direction. For example, if you get a dinosaur print, you must make sure the dinosaurs are looking in all different directions and not just one.
    • 1 spool ( 100m to 250m ) of matching color thread ( 100% Polyester )
    • For Shirt - 5 pcs of a 4-hole button ( Diameter 10 mm - 12mm ).
    • For Pants
      • Either 1 pc of a 4-hole button ( Diameter 18mm ); OR
      • 1 set of Hook and Bar ( 12mm ).
    • 1.0 meter non-woven ( for shirt collar, trouser waistband & fly facing ) - for Interlining/Interfacing.
    • 1 normal coil ( length 15 cm ) Zipper ( YKK Only ).
    • 6 meters of Marker paper ( 45 gsm, 122cm width ).

    The following item is optional but we strongly encourage students to bring:

    • 2x piece of vanguard sheet (Any colour, standard size) - Popular Bookstore

    Students are required to bring their Stationery too. List of stationery has been stated below.

    3. 2B Pencil (and sharpener or extra lead depending on type of pencil used)
    4. Eraser/Rubber
    5. 1-inch paper masking tape

Sewing Toolkit and Marker paper

Attached is the new TaF.tc Sewing Toolkit list and Marker Paper requirements. The toolkit is required for ALL students who take TaF.tc’s Sewing Courses for all new sign-ups from 1 March 2024 onwards.

Price as follows:

  • Sewing Toolkit - Retail Price S$70/set / TaF.tc Student Price S$55/set.
  • Marker Paper (10 yards) - Retail Price S$10 / TaF.tc Student Price S$7.

We do not offer any make-up or replacement classes.

Yes! You can use any SkillsFuture Credits you have to pay for course fees.

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. There is also a minimum attendance requirement of 75% of training hours for Singaporean and PRs, and 90% of training hours for international students. If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to enjoy subsidies nor to sit for the assessment. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!

Intermediate Drafting & Sewing Pants - you will need a 15cm normal coil YKK zipper (do not use metallic teeth) – This will be provided
