This course will teach you to make a barrel duffle bag. Draft the patterns, cut the appropriate material, stitch the bag with lining, and sew the zippers.

Overview
Duffle bags were historically popularized in the military as heavy materials were used to enable service men to carry their items easily in a barrel like bag with just 1 opening. But in contemporary times, duffle bags are a common bag style used in casual to formal settings with a variety of materials. This course will teach you to draft a barrel duffle, cut the appropriate material and stitch the bag with lining. This course will also cover the techniques of sewing zippers. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024

Objectives
  • Draft pattern blocks for a duffle bag with given specifications and measurements.
  • Understand a variety of patterns for the duffle bag using various manipulation methods.
  • Label and mark individual pattern pieces with symbols based on individual practices.
  • Cut shell and/or lining based on bag pattern.
  • Assemble and finish the bag based on industry standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend rectifications on the duffle bag against the given design specifications and measurements.

Phoebe Na

Phoebe Na is a TaF.tc diploma graduate in Footwear Design and Product Development, a program developed and delivered by renowned trainers from Ars Sutoria School, a Footwear school based in Milan. She is one of the few local artisans in bags, shoes and accessories. In 1994, Phoebe started her own business and ventured into making teddy bears, handbags and accessories. She progressed to make footwear in 1999 and subsequently taught in TaF.tc since November 2013 for the construction modules in footwear. She now has her own studio workshop and creates her own unique pieces.

To enrol, you must fulfil the following requirements

Aged 16 years and above

 and 2

GCE 'O' Level with minimum grade C6 for 3 subjects, including English and Mathematics OR WSQ Advanced Certificate OR WSQ ES WPLN Level 5 and above

ALL Students are required to have basic digital literacy, knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office

 and 4

Competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies: a. Develop Patterns and Sew Small Leathergoods and Variations OR b. Develop Patterns and Sew Tote Bags and Variation

Graduation

To graduate, you must fulfil the following requirements

75% attendance rate of total training hours per module

 and 2

Be found competent during written, practical and oral assessments

International Students

To enrol, you must fulfil the following requirements

IELTS score 5.5 or TOEFL 600

Yes! You can use any SkillsFuture Credits you have to pay for course fees.

We do not offer any make-up or replacement classes.

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. There is also a minimum attendance requirement of 75% of training hours for Singaporean and PRs, and 90% of training hours for international students. If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to enjoy subsidies nor to sit for the assessment. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!
