Fashion Promotion and Communication BA (Hons)

This BA (Hons) in Fashion Promotion and Communication immerses students in the full spectrum of fashion communication, from digital campaigns to traditional marketing strategies. Students learn to craft compelling narratives and master visual communication across multiple platforms, supported by industry-standard facilities such as sewing studios, industrial machinery, and software including Adobe Creative Cloud and CLO3D.
 

The programme prioritises hands-on learning through real-world projects, enabling students to refine their storytelling, brand development, and promotional skills while building a professional portfolio. Ethical practice and sustainability are embedded throughout, equipping graduates to promote fashion responsibly and contribute to the industry’s shift towards a more sustainable future.

Curriculum | Bridging Programme
  • Introduces the historical development of fashion media from the 1800s to today. Students engage with critical texts, debates, and case studies while strengthening academic writing through a 1500-word research essay.

    Content:

    1. Historical Development of Fashion Media:

      • Overview from the 1800s to the present.

      • Key concepts, debates, and practices.

    2. Thematic Approaches:​

      • Transnational perspectives on fashion media.

      • Development of fashion promotion through different eras.

    3. Critical Texts and Case Studies:​

      • Analysis of influential fashion media formats.

      • Examination of theory and practice in fashion communication.

  • Explores the foundations of fashion promotion, including research methods, trend analysis, and brand evaluation. Students develop an editorial project, applying concept development and practical design processes.

    Content:

    1. Introduction to Fashion Promotion:

      • Overview of fashion promotion platforms.

      • Importance of trend and brand evaluation.

    2. Research Methodologies:

      • Primary and secondary research techniques.

      • Cultural observation, and speculation.

    3. Design Process:

      • Concept formation and experimentation.

      • Practical application of theoretical knowledge.

Curriculum | Year 2
  • Builds on skills from Fashion Promotion and Communication 1, focusing on professional and industry practices. Advances research methods, contextual understanding, and analysis of markets and consumer segments. Emphasises data-driven creative outputs, brand communication, and professional presentation to target audiences. Develops advanced visual communication skills, exploring innovative agendas and emerging visual platforms.

  • Focuses on developing employability skills: professionalism, self-awareness, technical expertise, career paths, and self-development. Encourages defining individual creative and philosophical identity while exploring industry roles. Develops visual and written communication showcasing strengths and career aspirations. Prepares students for Level 6 progression, industry engagement, or study abroad during an optional placement year. Includes a personal tutor programme to support academic progress.

  • Offers opportunities to work on externally defined projects requiring professionalism, understanding, and engagement. Culminates in presenting and justifying creative outputs or promotional strategies to external audiences. Supports the development of individual identity through internal and external briefs, building on prior learning and career aspirations.​

  • Focusing on the theorisation of contemporary fashion practice. Combines lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, screenings, and visits to support independent research and development. Deepens critical and theoretical engagement with contemporary fashion issues through seminars and assessments. Introduces research methodologies via case studies and practical activities linked to contemporary fashion topics.

Curriculum | Year 3
  • Culminates the course, synthesising theory, business application, and personal/professional practice into a self-directed project. Offers the opportunity to define and visually communicate personal position and ambition within the industry. Aimed at creating a professional portfolio or showcase.

  • Develops a visually fluent promotional activity targeting a specified audience, showcasing individual work. Focuses on formulating an exit strategy, enhancing professional knowledge of global fashion promotion and communication. Provides opportunities for career-focused research, analysis, and documentation of work, with support from the Personal Tutor Scheme, Careers Service, and other resources.

  • Prepares students for the Fashion Promotion Campaign (Capstone Project) by negotiating and visualising a creative, concept-driven brief. Focuses on developing a mature, responsible approach to individual practice within professional industry expectations. Engages with external projects/competitions to build upon existing work and contextualise it competitively within the global creative community.

  • Enables independent research in fashion studies, allowing students to develop a personal research topic and apply relevant methods. Involves managing study time, engaging with feedback, and producing a 7,000–8,000-word dissertation using critical and analytical tools.

Certificate Issuance

Upon successful graduation within the programme, you will be awarded the Fashion Promotion and Communication BA (Hons) by Kingston University School of Art. In order to transition seamlessly into the programme you are required to attain the the  Advanced Diploma in Fashion Technology certification by Tembusu Institute.  Tembusu Institute diplomas and advanced diploma are accredited by institutes globally. Admission Requirements
Singaporean or Singapore PR
  • Aged 16 years and above

  • Possess at least 3 GCE “O” level credits with a minimum of C6 including English and Mathematics OR ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above OR WSQ Advanced Certificate in Fashion Technology OR TaF.tc's Advanced Certificate AND

  • Students are required to have basic computing skills i.e. turn on the laptop, use the mouse, drag and drop files, use online search engine for research; and be a competent user of Microsoft Office.

International Students
  • Aged 16 years and above

  • High School Diploma equivalent to GCE 'N' Levels with minimum grade C6 for 3 subjects, including English and Mathematics OR Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basis AND

  • Pass TaF.tc Entrance Test AND 

  • English requirement: IELTS score 5.5 or TOEFL IBT 46

  • Students are required to have basic computing skills i.e. turn on the laptop, use the mouse, drag and drop files, use online search engine for research; and be a competent user of Microsoft Office.

Graduation Requirements
Singaporean or Singapore PR
  • 75% attendance rate of total training hours per module

  • Be found competent during written, practical and oral assessments

International Students
  • 75% attendance rate of total training hours per module. Student Pass Holders – a minimum of 90% attendance per month will be required.

  • Be found competent during written, practical and oral assessments

    *Note: Applicants who have completed the Advanced Diploma in Fashion Technology at Tembusu Institute and entered that qualification with an IELTS score of 5.5 overall (with no element less than 5.0) will not be required to provide further IELTS evidence of 6.0 with no element below 5.5.
