Drafting & Sewing: Modern Cheongsam

This workshop offers a focused, hands-on exploration into the construction of the modern A-line Cheongsam, a silhouette valued for its clean lines, comfort, and contemporary wearability. Designed for learners who wish to strengthen garment construction and finishing skills, the course centres on producing a well-engineered A-line Cheongsam using professionally graded standard patterns (S/M/L/XL/XXL), rather than drafting pattern blocks from scratch.

Participants will learn how to select appropriate standard sizes based on body measurements, followed by minor fit adjustments to improve balance, comfort, and visual proportion. Emphasis is placed on understanding A-line garment structure, seam placement, panel alignment, and construction accuracy to achieve a polished and flattering result.

The workshop also introduces practical production considerations commonly used in professional and small-scale manufacturing settings. Learners will apply efficient fabric preparation methods, logical construction sequencing, and essential quality-control practices. By the end of the course, participants will complete a wearable modern A-line Cheongsam finished to a professional standard.
