What is the Train and Place?

The Train and Place is designed to create, manage and infuse new talent into the textile and fashion industry to encourage vitality and growth.

A joint initiative by the SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and the Textile and Fashion Industry Training Centre (, it offers Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents the opportunity to gain the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to fuel a career in the textile and fashion industry before working with a local fashion company to apply what was learnt.

The programme includes a WSQ Diploma in Fashion Technology that gives industry practitioners a nationally recognised qualification, certifying skills and work experience.

The Train and Place is a 10-month programme where selected individuals will study full-time for a WSQ Diploma in Fashion Technology, after which they will undergo a 2-month internship programme with a reputable company and proceed to be placed in an employment (terms and conditions apply).

  • Prepare individuals to manage and work professionally through training under WSQ Diploma in Fashion Technology.
  • Create career opportunities for new candidates in the textile and fashion industry.
  • Allow companies to identify new talent and impart the necessary knowledge and experience to create industry-ready individuals.
  • Interested individuals must first enrol for the WSQ Diploma in Fashion Technology and opt for the Train and Place programme.
  • Shortlisted individuals will undergo an interview arranged by the company or and secure an internship placement before the start of their Diploma programme.
  • Selected individuals will attend and complete the full-time diploma programme at for 3 to 3.5 months (depending on the nature of the course) within the time frame stipulated.
  • Upon completion of the diploma programme, the individual will be attached full-time as an intern to a host company for 2 months (based on the calendar month). During this period, the individual will gain some industry knowledge and skills.
  • Selected individuals will enjoy a training stipend of up to $5,000 throughout the 3-month Diploma programme and 2-month internship programme.
  • Upon completion of the 2-month internship programme, the individual will have to work in the same industry for the remaining 5 months of the Train and Place programme.
  • The host company has first priority in offering employment to its intern if the host company has a career opening, and will also facilitate the placement of the individual into suitable employment within the industry, should any assistance be required.

To apply, you must possess:

  • 3 GCE “O” level credits in English, Mathematics and 1 other subject OR
  • ES ESQ Workplace Literacy & Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above
  • Must be unemployed throughout the period of application
  • Must not own a registered business
