Overview
A holistic introduction to the textile and fashion industry understanding the process of design till finished goods focusing on production, sourcing, costing and marketing. Participants will gain the basic comprehension of textile fundamentals, ability to apprehend the processes for apparel production, elementary skills in production drawing, applying production tracking skills till marketing of their finished goods.
This CU provides occupational knowledge and skills of the various techniques and concepts in interpreting Textile and Textile Processes which covers the understanding of how textiles are constructed from fibre to finished fabric. The identification of textiles using industry fabric names, generic fibre names and coloration methods provides a more objective manner of recognising textiles. This knowledge will reduce incorrect fabric selection and allow the merchandiser or purchaser to buy materials without the need of sample fabric. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024
This module aims to provide basic knowledge and skills to draw production drawings. It covers different garment types, details and specifications. You will learn how to draw basic production drawings and give basic descriptions. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024
This module covers skills and knowledge of how garments are constructed, the various seams and stitches utilization in various components within the garment. Thus fundamental knowledge will reduce redundant designs that cannot be replicated in mass production, eliminate misinterpretation in sampling and production, and improve communication in production specifications. This module provides occupational knowledge and skills of the various techniques and concepts in the quality in the Fashion Industry, you will learn quality concept, quality inspection, what constitutes a defect, statistical sampling, testing, product safety, seam and stitch problems and solutions. In today’s world, social media communication is key focus for all businesses. In this social media marketing course, you will learn to identify marketing communication opportunities in new media, how to develop marketing communication plans, and how to evaluate the effectiveness of the social media platform in raising brand profile. This module provides knowledge and skills of the various techniques and concepts in the Fashion Retail buying. It is designed to enhance skills of buying merchandise for retail. You will learn to apply retail buying strategy, how to read and apply OTB plan to appeal to your customers.
Traditional brick-and-mortar retail outlets are increasingly facing challenges across multiple fronts – from rising labour costs, to high rentals and overheads. In such a competitive environment, new businesses may find their profit margins rapidly eroded, which is why e-commerce platforms are becomingly critical to lean start-ups. In this module, you’ll learn the basics of setting up, maintaining, and operating an e-commerce store from stocktaking to shipping. You will also learn the fundamentals of how to enhance your customer’s online experience, such that you will be able to differentiate yourself in a crowded e-commerce environment. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024
This module covers the elementary knowledge and skills of the various techniques and concepts in costing, sourcing, and production tracking. You will cover the following topics to hone your skills as merchandiser – Costing which includes computation of fabric consumption and apparel costs based on given technical package and costs of materials and labour of fashion apparel. Sourcing and computing of LDP/DDP for fashion apparel. Production tracking which includes establishment of a Critical Path management (CPM) diagram and Time and Action Calendar (TAC) based on given order and delivery and how to solve problems to achieve on time delivery and efficiency. This unit is delivered through lecture, demonstration and in class activities including online sourcing. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024

Singapore/PR Students:
Aged 16 years and above AND
Possess at least 3 GCE 'N' Level credits including English and Mathematics OR
ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 4 and above
International Students:
Aged 16 years and above AND
High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘N’ Levels with minimum grade C6 for 3 subjects, including English and Mathematics AND
IELTS score 4.5 or TOEFL score 450
ALL Students are required to have basic computing skills - i.e. able to turn on the laptop, use the mouse, drag and drop files, use online search engines for research; and be a competent user of Microsoft Office.
Graduation Requirements
Minimum 75% attendance for every module
Must be assessed 'COMPETENT' in every module
Certificate Issuance
Upon successful completion of each module within the course, you will be awarded the Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) Statement of Attainment (SOA) by SkillsFuture Singapore.
After successful completion of all modules within the course, you will be awarded the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Fashion Technology (Merchandising & Marketing), and the Advanced Certificate in Fashion Business certification by TaF.tc.
WSQ certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
