This course equips participants with the necessary skills to perform intermediate-level alterations on various garment types. Aimed at individuals in the fashion retail service sector and designers catering to clients needing clothing modifications, it focuses on enhancing proficiency in garment fit evaluation, pinning for alteration, and executing alterations on simulated samples and ready-made clothing. Participants will expand their expertise by working with diverse materials and garment types, ensuring they can meet industry standards. 

The course adopts a hands-on approach, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Participants will engage in active learning through simulated samples and real-world garment alterations. Instruction will be supplemented with demonstrations, exercises, and collaborative activities to reinforce learning outcomes.

Assessment will be based on participants' ability to successfully execute alteration techniques, demonstrate proficiency in using sewing machines, and accurately measure altered garments against specified requirements. Feedback and guidance will be provided throughout the course to facilitate continuous improvement.

Objectives
  • Identify the various intermediate skills in garment alteration & the appropriate type of machine used to achieve the required finishes as per industry norms.
  • Perform the various extending and expanding alterations techniques on basic woven and knit garments including tops, shirts, skirts, pants and dresses as per industry norms.
  • Determine the types of alteration techniques and seam finishes on various types of materials.
  • Transfer the required alteration with proper markings onto the garment as per industry norms.
  • Alter the garment based on marking using proper sewing and finishing machines as per industry norms.
  • Measure altered garment against the given specification as per industry norms.

Items Required For Class

Before your class begins, we'd like you to make sure that you have the following items so that the class can proceed smoothly.

  • Garment - TaF.tc will provide samples.
  • Tape Measures and Pins - Accessories.

Students are required to bring their Stationery too. List of stationery has been stated below.

  2. Correction tape/fluid
  3. 2B Pencil (and sharpener or extra lead depending on type of pencil used)
  4. Eraser/Rubber
  5. 1-inch paper masking tape
  6. Glue stick
  7. Notebook

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. There is also a minimum attendance requirement of 75% of training hours for Singaporean and PRs, and 90% of training hours for international students. If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to enjoy subsidies nor to sit for the assessment. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!
