Jennifer Chan established her own business in the 70s, sewing made to order dresses. She went on to pattern drafting and sampling for industrial and high fashion boutiques. She began in 1984 where she imparted her dressmaking and pattern drafting skills in private and government schools such as ITE, Vocational School for the Deaf and Baharuddin Fashion School and several adult retraining programs. Such was her expertise that she was tapped for the writing of Test Practical Questions for the National Trade Certificate 3 and 2 as well in the development of curriculum for some sewing modules. Jennifer was a Technical Support Officer at Temasek Polytechnic, School of Design. Today, she is a Trainer with TaF.tc teaching Basic Drafting, Sewing Ladies’ Garments and Handling Industrial Sewing Machines.
Dot is one of our most distinctive-looking instructors with asymmetric silver hair and uniquely styled clothes. Dot enjoys inspiring her students by wearing clothes she makes to her classes. When asked what percentage of her wardrobe is self-made she said it's 50%. She started her sewing journey in the 80s when store-bought clothes were a luxury and every household had a sewing machine where beautiful handmade clothes were created. Along the way, Dot honed her skills by attending courses locally and overseas such as learning from Shanghai Cheongsam masters and from Switzerland Gina Renee Designs. Acquiring her MBA in 1994 and after working in the corporate world for 20 years, she decides to further pursue her passion in fashion and become a trainer. In addition to teaching sewing and drafting courses at TaF.tc, Dot takes on projects under the National Heritage Board on museum textile & garment mounting. She is also a pattern tester for several pattern makers like Rebecca Page, Jennifer Lauren Handmade and Forget-Me-Not Patterns. Dot is big on sharing and believes there is something to be learned from everyone she meets and each experience she gains. Dot finds it extremely fulfilling to help her students derive satisfaction and joy from sewing. She understands sewing can be an intimidating experience for newbies so she likes to actively put herself in the shoes of students who are new to sewing. One piece of advice she always gives to her students is that unlike most things in life, you can always undo sewing mistakes.
