Overview
This course provides solid foundation of pattern development and garment construction of basic skirt and sleeveless top. You will learn to take body measurements, understand the relation of styles and ease allowance, develop patterns and basic sewing techniques to construct the garment. This forms the fundamental for progression enabling you to master the basic techniques of laying fabric, cutting, sewing, edging and finishing. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024

  • Develop a variety of patterns for selected simple collarless tops and skirts using basic block via manipulation methods.
  •  Label and mark individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches based on industrial practices.
  • Sew a simple top and skirt against given specifications or measurements.
  • Evaluate product against given specifications or measurements.
  • Take follow-up actions for non-conformance.

Items Required For Class

Before your class begins, we'd like you to make sure that you have the following items so that the class can proceed smoothly.

The following items are compulsory for students to bring:

  • Your TaF.tc Sewing Tool Kit - If you have not purchased it before, please refer here for the full list.
  • Fabric for the Blouse - 100% Cotton Poplin/Gingham (1.5m by 45 - 48 inch width OR 1m by 58 - 60 inch width)  
  • Fabric for the Skirt - 100% Cotton Twill (1.5m by 45 - 48 inch width OR 1m by 58 - 60 inch width).
    • We advise to get fabrics that are not too soft and slippery.
    • Additionally, solid color fabric is highly recommended. Clearly mark which is the face and back of the fabric.
    • If you prefer to get prints, please get prints that are non-directional and can be cut in either direction. Example, if you get a dinosaur print, you must make sure the dinosaurs are looking at all different directions and not just one.

The following items are provided but we encourage students to bring their own:

  • White or Black YKK Conceal Zipper 23cm for the skirt. Students should get a 23cm invisible/conceal zipper if they wish to bring their own.
  • Black and White thread

The following item is optional but we strongly encourage students to bring:

  • 2x piece of vanguard sheet (Any colour, standard size) - Popular Bookstore

We highly discourage you from missing any classes since the entire program is designed to be hands-on intensive. Make sure you block off your time during your training with us or find an intake option that will ensure you do not miss any classes. You will only wish that you had more time in the class!

If you do not meet the 75% attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to sit for the assessment. As 90% of the total course fees are funded by the government, you will be liable to pay back to TaF.tc the amount that the government has subsidised if the student does not meet the 75% attendance requirement or attain a 'pass' grade for assessment.

Enrolling in our campus is exactly the same as enrolling online. You will still be enrolling on the same online form and make payment online (we accept only VISA / MASTER / AMEX.)

Yes, you can! Our Basic and Drafting Sewing course is open to beginners. Just bring your enthusiasm along and have fun!

We do not offer any make-up or replacement classes.

No, you can't. Due to the intensive course content, you are required to follow this learning pathway: (1) Basic Drafting and Sewing (Sleeveless Top and Skirt); (2) Intermediate Drafting and Sewing (Shirt and Pants) OR (3) Pattern Drafting and Sewing- Dress; (3) Pattern Drafting and Sewing-Jacket As for Basic Alteration & Pinning for Alteration, these modules have no pre-requisites and are open to beginners.
