Overview
This course provides a broad-based knowledge of how to conduct basic alteration using various techniques. You will be able to apply the proper methods of alteration to the various types of a garment. This course is highly recommended for people who are involved in the fashion retail service sector and designers to cater to the demands of customers who require clothing alterations or modifications to fit their body. Participants will be involved in the active learning of garment fit evaluation and pinning for alteration through simulated samples and ready-made clothing. Funding Period: 1st March 2021 to end Feb 2024

Objectives
- Perform simple alterations on basic woven and knit garments including tops, shirts, skirts, pants and dresses
- Determine the amount of fabric to take in or release after performing proper pinning for alteration on a garment
- Transfer the required alteration with proper markings onto the garment
- Alter the garment based on marking using proper sewing and finishing machines
- Measure altered garment against the given specification
Entry Requirement
Singapore/PR Students:
- GCE ‘N’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
- WSQ ES WPLN Level 4 and above
International Students:
- High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘N’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
- Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basis AND/OR
- Pass TaF.tc Entrance Test
English Language Requirement –
- Possess a minimum credit in English at GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent OR
- IELTS score 4.5 or TOEFL score 450
ALL Students are required to have basic knowledge of computer and Microsoft Office
Additional Pre-requisites:
All students must be competent or possess equivalent skills and knowledge for the following competencies:
- WSQ Develop Apparel Patterns through Drafting and Sew Basic Tops and Skirt
- WSQ Fit Evaluation and Pinning for Alteration
Graduation Requirements
Student must fulfil the following requirements:
- 75% attendance rate of total training hours per module
- Be found competent during written, practical and oral assessments
Student Pass Holders – a minimum of 90% attendance per month will be required
