Official Launch of Government Aided Services for Fashion/ Garment Industry

November 3rd, 2006

(SINGAPORE)- DDown at Singapore Expo Hall 6 was the Singapore Fashion Week 2006 exhibition where local and overseas fashion and garment manufacturing industry gather round to showcase their latest collection and capabilities. This event housed the official launch for the Textile & Fashion Design Centre (TaF.dc) and Virtual Garment Centre (V.Gc). This mark a milestone as it is an effort that the Government and TaF.f has taken to assist the local apparel and fashion industry in their product development and design needs.

Under the Government's multi-agency Local Enterprise and Association Development (LEAD) Programme to help Singapore-based players stay ahead of global competition, TaF.f has proposed a series of projects designed to help its members improve on productivity and efficiency, enhance design capabilities and shorten production lead time.

One of the key projects is the set up of a Productivity and Design Development Centre (PDDC). TaF.f has received funding from the Singapore government to promote the use of virtual fit technology in product design and development and to provide design consultancy services. TaF.dc and V.Gc are components of the PDDC under TaF.tc.

V.Gc will be championing the cause of 3D/ Virtual technology through CAD. The main objective of VGC is a one-stop virtual centre that promotes and encourages mass adoption of 3D technology in product development for the apparel industry which will result in lead-time reduction through process re-engineering in product development workflow. To facilitate the objective, V.Gc will work with TaF.tc to give training so as to flood the market with new breed of V-designers who can develop from design concept to 2D boards and 3D garments.

By hosting of the largest virtual libraries of colours, fabrics, accessories, trims, patterns and avatars combined with the abovementioned services, V.Gc aim to be the global leader in the promotion of 3D technology to create designs, speed up product development and create virtual garments

TaF.dc’s main aim is to bring product development and design services with the assistance of CAD to the local/ regional players who need to heighten their product development and design capabilities in order to service their buyers more effectively. From updating with the latest trend through market research, designing of collections to drafting of styles and textile/ graphic design work, TaF.dc has both the technical know-how and the technology from Lectra and Brozwear to offer the right product at the right time.

The launched garnered much enquiry of its services and how it can help the manufacturing companies, departmental stores and Singapore based designer brands to stay ahead in this competitive market. Already, companies from Singapore, India, Pakistan and Hong Kong have come up to the booth set up at the exhibition hall to see how the parties can work together.
