Managing Director, Fuchsia Lane

Lauded for its creative use of various fabrics to recreate the way we wear cheongsams, Vivienne Lin’s journey of setting up Fuchsia Lane was not an easy one. It was a leap of faith and a desire to take her passion further that made her give up up a well-paid marketing communications job in order to start her fashion label. From its first shaky steps in 2007, her fashion label grew and so did her need for more knowledge on the fashion industry.

In 2008, she first enrolled in Applied Apparel Merchandising course at TaF.tc in which she picked up skills on apparel production drawing, fabric sourcing, usage and fabric costing. She continued her learning journey with TaF.tc in 2010 to learn about retail merchandise buying for the textile and fashion industry, and continued to take courses ranging from Fabric Care to Drafting and Sewing.

From peddling her wares at a rented table at the Red Dot Museum, Vivienne has since taken her designs to new heights with an atelier of her own, and a team of 10 people who help her materialise her designs. She and her artisans produce workwear, cocktail dresses and evening gowns ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. Her journey took time, sweat and passion, and she is now looking towards taking her line international.

Fuchsia Lane was recently commissioned by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to design and construct shirts and scarves with a Peranakan twist, to be worn by by ASEAN Ministers attending the ASEAN Tourism Forum held on 18 January 2017 in Shangrila Hotel. Our own trade Minister S Iswaran and the Chief Executive of STB were also dressed by Fuchsia Lane for the event.
