Course Description
This training provides occupational knowledge and skills in the various techniques in textiles analysis and identification that are widely used in the fashion industry. It covers understanding of the various processes from fiber to finished fabric cum the various spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and finishing processes. This fundamental knowledge helps participant identify potential risks involved in using selected fabric at the different stages of design, production and marketing. In turn, the knowledge and skills will empowered the participant the right attitude towards trouble shooting and problem solving in the fashion industry related to textiles limitations.
This unit is delivered through lecture, demonstration and hands-on activities.

Course Objectives –
- Describe the processes from yarns to fabric
- Differentiate between knits and woven, and to identify a variety of fabrics
- Understand the weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing and printing processes
- Comprehend the various types of fabric defects
- Knowing the latest in color evaluation
- Using the pick glass and fabric cutter to determine the fabric specifications
- Evaluate the process of garment wet processing and its associated problems
- To understand the common intrinsic characteristics and problems of certain production processes in textiles, thus providing the platform for problems analysis
- To enhance trouble-shooting and problem solving skills
- To be a better informed buyer/purchaser of materials and apparel
- To encourage group or organizational learning via sharing of experience and discussions
