About Noriyuki Misawa

MISAWA spent his childhood engrossed in manual training and painting as he grew up surrounded by art books that belonged to his mother. He started to learn shoemaking in Tokyo in order to become a shoemaker because he was fascinated with leather shoes in his schooldays.

Seven years later, he moved to Vienna, Austria, and pursued art and craft with a relish. MISAWA began to think about shoes from an artistic perspective and received two prizes at the Germany, International Efficiency Contest of Shoemakers for both “Gold” and “Honor” awards (2010).

Returning to Japan, MISAWA entered the world of leather craft to expand his range of expression and understudied a leather craftsman for four years.

MISAWA held a solo exhibition in Ginza, Tokyo (2014), and won the "Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Minister Award” at the 33rd Japan leather crafts exhibition - the first shoe-themed prize winner in this crafts exhibition.

Thereafter, MISAWA became a shoe artist (2017) after being influenced by the numerous contemporary artworks he saw in New York. He presented his artworks to the world through Cannes Film Festival (France) and solo exhibitions in NYC.

Notable prsonalities who has worn MISAWA's shoes includes, Julius Tennon (Actor & Producer), Chinami Suzuki (Actress & Model), Park Chan Wook (Director) and more!
